The Federal Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Marine Mineral (e.g. sand and gravel) Lease Areas layer is maintained by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), part of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Each lease area polygon defines an area where entities that have entered into or have formally requested a Negotiated Non-Competitive Lease or Memorandum of Agreement with BOEM can dredge sand, gravel, or shell resources from the OCS. Section 8 (k) of the OCS Lands Act (OCSLA), as amended by Public Law 103-426 (enacted in 1994), gives BOEM the authority to negotiate an agreement for the use of OCS sand, gravel, and shell resources for use in: (1) a project for shore protection, beach restoration, or coastal restoration undertaken by a Federal, State, or local government agency; or (2) for use in a construction project funded in whole or in part by, or authorized by, the Federal government. This dataset is a collection of active, completed, expired, and proposed lease areas under BOEM's purview. Attribution consists of OCS lease number, state, project ID, volume of material allocated, borrow area ID, leases status, and administrative chronology of the lease term (e.g. execution and expiration dates). Revisions to this dataset are made on a regular basis by BOEM staff to reflect the current status of OCS marine mineral leasing activity.

Aliquots are generated from Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) blocks by subdividing each block into 16ths, and this further subdivision allows for more detailed boundary delineation in offshore energy leasing. These polygons are clipped to the Submerged Land Act Boundary and Continental Shelf Boundaries. The aliquots use a letter designation in addition to their parent protraction number and OCS block number (e.g., NK18-02, 6822F). A full OCS block is 4800 x 4800 meters, while an aliquot measures 1200 x 1200 meters. Smaller, clipped aliquots are found along the Federal/State OCS boundary and along UTM zone borders. Only the most recently published paper or PDF versions of the Official Protraction Aliquot Diagram (OPAD) should be used for official or legal purposes.
These data were created in the applicable NAD83 UTM or NAD27 UTM/SPCS Projection and re-projected to GCS WGS84 (EPSG 4326) for management in BOEM's enterprise GIS. However, this service in this collection has been published in WGS 1984 Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere (EPSG 3857). Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these data are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact boundaries. Areas that are permanently or temporarily withdrawn from oil/gas, renewable, critical mineral, sand leasing, or some combination of these by various authorities. These include Presidential Withdrawals under Sec. 12 of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, 43 U.S.C. §1341, or the National Marine Sanctuaries Act, 16 U.S.C. §§ 1431-1434, U.S.C. 1401 et seq. Additionally, some Marine National Monuments within the area under BOEM\"s leasing authority include language that restrict certain types of leases. These data are NOT an OFFICIAL record of exact boundaries and should be used for cartographic purposes only. These data should not be used to calculate areas.
The principal port file contains USACE port codes, geographic location, names, and commodity tonnage summaries (total tons, domestic, foreign, imports and exports) for principal USACE ports for CY 2023.
This data set is publicly available without any use restrictions; however, this data set was developed for use at a national scale and may not be appropriate for use in local scale mapping.
Official Protraction Diagrams (OPDs) are further subdivided into individual Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) blocks which are available as a separate layer. Some OCS blocks also contain other boundary information and are known as Supplemental Official Block Diagrams (SOBDs). The OPDs and SOBDs serve as the legal definition for BOEM offshore boundary coordinates and area descriptions. The SOBD maps can be accessed by clicking on the link in the Supplemental Official Block Diagram field of the attribute table. Further information on the history of the development of OPDs can be found in OCS Report MMS 99-0006: Boundary Development on the Outer Continental Shelf.
These data were created in the applicable NAD83 UTM projection and re-projected to WGS84 Geographic. Because GIS projection and topology functions can change or generalize coordinates, these GIS files are NOT an OFFICIAL record for the exact boundaries. These files are to be used for Cartographic purposes only. These data should not be used to calculate area.

Offshore sediment resources, like upland sources, are extremely scarce where most needed. Additionally, vast areas of these relatively small offshore sediment resources are not extractable because of the presence of oil and gas infrastructure, archaeologically sensitive areas, and biologically sensitive areas. Since the use of OCS sediment resources is authorized by the BOEM through its Marine Mineral Program, the bureau is implementing several measures to help safeguard the most significant OCS sediment resources, reduce multiple use conflicts, and minimize interference with oil and gas operations under existing leases or rights-of-way. During the planning process, entities may reference the block attributes provided in this dataset to inquire about specific resources within those areas. As new information becomes available, blocks designated as significant sediment resource areas will be updated. The resources depicted in this feature class were identified and characterized during various reconnaissance- and design-level studies where geological (e.g. sediment cores, sediment profile images, etc.) and geophysical (e.g. high-resolution swath bathymetry, side-scan sonar, seismic reflection profiles, magnetometer surveys) data were collected, as least in part, to evaluate OCS sand resources. Resource attribution consists of OCS study area ID, location (state), area ID (e.g. shoal X), approximate areal extent, estimated volume, generalized (e.g. composite) sediment properties (mean grain size, %sand, %gravel, %fines etc.), and resource evaluation stage (see attribute definition for detailed explanation). Delineations are not guaranteed to be exact and mainly consist of approximate delineations based on interpretations of data, drawings, and or descriptions found in related study reports. Likewise, the character of sediment deposits qualifying as sand resource areas varies with region and prospective applications for use. If a sand resource area is deemed suitable for a given project (e.g. beach restoration), then entities may enter into a Negotiated Non-Competitive Lease or Memoranda of Agreement with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), in order to dredge sand, gravel or shell resources from the resource area. Section 8 (k) of the OCS Lands Act (OCSLA) as amended by Public Law 103-426 (enacted in 1994) gives BOEM the authority to negotiate an agreement for the use of OCS sand, gravel and shell resources for use in: (1) a project for shore protection, beach restoration, or coastal wetlands restoration undertaken by a Federal, State, or local government agency; or (2) for use in a construction project funded in whole or part by or authorized by the Federal government. Since 1998, geoscientists at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) have identified and mapped water bottom (seafloor) acoustic amplitude anomalies in the deep-water Gulf of America (GOA) using 3-D time-migrated seismic surveys. The purpose of this mapping program is to understand the distribution of natural hydrocarbon seeps and related benthic fauna (chemosynthetic and coral communities) in the GOA, and to characterize other seafloor features related to the geological framework of the seafloor. These areas show anomalously high or low acoustic amplitude response relative to typical background, with most areas having overlapping seismic coverage by two or more surveys. These results cover over 230,000 square kilometers of seismic data interpretation.

These data represent the offshore wind leases within the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) - federally managed waters within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) - managed by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. State leases are managed by individual state leasing authorities. The data show Individual blocks and sub-blocks, commercial, research, and right of way lease areas. Leases are considered provisional after auction, prior to signatures from BOEM and the Lessee.
These polygon features represent the areas comprising the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) as defined by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). In the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), the term \"Outer Continental Shelf\" is defined as \"(1) all submerged lands lying seaward and outside of the area of lands beneath navigable waters as defined in the Submerged Lands Act, and of which the subsoil and seabed appertain to the United States and are subject to its jurisdiction and control or within the exclusive economic zone of the United States and adjacent to any territory of the United States; and (2) does not include any area conveyed by Congress to a territorial government for administration (43 USC 1331).
Under international law, the continental shelf extends to the outer edge of the continental margin, or to 200nm from the baseline, whichever is greater. Where the outer edge of the continental margin extends beyond 200 nm from the baseline, the outer limits of the continental shelf are determined in accordance with Article 76 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The outer limits of the U.S. continental shelf, in areas beyond 200 nm, are established by the U.S. Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) Project led by the Department of State, the Department of the Interior, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

These data are an outline version of offshore wind leases managed by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). Active offshore wind leasing areas within the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) waters include commercial, research, and right of way lease areas. Leases are considered provisional after auction and prior to signatures from BOEM and the Lessee. All blocks for each lease have been dissolved by Lease Number to create outline polygons of active wind leases managed by BOEM. Easement sections are not dissolved into the lease but are considered part of the lease agreement.
These data show the extent of the probable oil and/or gas geologic structures (plays) identified within the US Outer Continental Shelf located in the waters near The United States of America in 2026. Plays are groups of known and/or postulated sub-seafloor pools (hydrocarbon accumulations) that share common geologic, geographic, and temporal properties, such as history of hydrocarbon generation, mitigation, migration, reservoir development, and entrapment. The analysis of the plays and their Unrecovered Technically Recoverable Resource (UTRR) characteristics represented herein was based on seismic surveys analyzed by BOEM geologists. Plays are represented in horizontal space but may overlap vertically allowing for multiple plays in the same horizontal space. Area calculations were completed in North America Albers Equal Area Conic.

The purpose of HAPCs is to focus conservation, management, and research efforts on subsets of EFH that are vulnerable to degradation or are especially important ecologically for federally managed fish. The HAPC designation alone does not confer additional protection or restrictions to an area, but helps to focus EFH conservation, management, and research priorities. HAPC designation is a valuable way to acknowledge areas where we have detailed information on ecological function and habitat vulnerability, indicating a greater need for conservation and management. In some instances the Councils and NMFS may develop fishery management measures to conserve the habitat within the HAPC.
HAPCs are a subset of EFH that deserve special attention because they provide extremely important ecological functions and/or are especially vulnerable to degradation. For instance, HAPC designation may be warranted for areas that play a vital role in the reproductive cycle of a managed species (e.g., grouper spawning sites) or areas that contain a rare habitat type (e.g., corals) that may be sensitive to disturbance from fishing or other human activities.
Councils may designate an area as a HAPC for one or more of the following reasons:
The habitat provides important ecological functions
The habitat is sensitive to human-induced environmental degradation
Development activities are, or will be, stressing the habitat
The habitat type is rare.
The Cetacean Density and Distribution Mapping Working Group identified Biologically Important Areas (BIAs) for 24 cetacean species, stocks, or populations in seven regions (US East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, West Coast, Hawaiian Islands, Gulf of Alaska, Aleutian Islands and Bering Sea, and Arctic [encompassing the northeastern Chukchi and western Beaufort seas]) within US waters. BIAs are reproductive areas, feeding areas, migratory corridors, and areas in which small and resident populations are concentrated. BIAs are region-, species-, and time-specific. Information provided for each BIA includes the following: 1) a written narrative describing the information, assumptions, and logic used to delineate the BIA; 2) a map of the BIA; 3) a list of references used in the assessment; and 4) a metadata table that concisely details the type and quantity of information used to define a BIA, providing transparency in how BIAs were designated in a quick reference table format. BIAs were identified through an expert elicitation process. The delineation of BIAs does not have direct or immediate regulatory consequences. Rather, the BIA assessment is intended to provide the best available science to help inform regulatory and management decisions under existing authorities about some, though not all, important cetacean areas in order to minimize the impacts of anthropogenic activities on cetaceans and to achieve conservation and protection goals. In addition, the BIAs and associated information may be used to identify information gaps and prioritize future research and modeling efforts to better understand cetaceans, their habitat, and ecosystems.

These data were developed by the NOAA Radar Operations Center (ROC) to establish variable zones that delineate the possible impacts wind turbines may have on radar operations. The inventory scheme includes four zones that take into account terrain, distance, and the number of elevation angles impacted. ROC requests various degrees of consultation with the developer depending on the zone. At the request of the data provider, data shown here are not available for download.

This map of shellfish aquaculture SAA (Statewide Activity Approval) locations has been developed so that interested parties may explore the Statewide Activity Approval (SAA) acres more thoroughly. These data show the location of aquaculture operations within coastal and offshore waters of the United States. Aquaculture types may include aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and aquatic plants. The presence and location of aquaculture operations were derived from multiple state websites and include only those in coastal and marine saltwater areas. The states of Maryland, Delaware, Louisiana, and Mississippi are not included in this data set, but are available individually in the Data Registry.
